On Monday 23rd July, a Old Boys XI will face the Ryman Youth League Team in a pre season friendly at Krooner (I think).
Last season the Old Boys prevailed 1-0 in a very entertaining, and will be looking for a similar results with additions from last season's CCL Cup winning team.
As always, your support for both sides would be grateful as we do enjoy seeing a few familiar faces at the club for what will be guaranteed to be a very good game of football

RYL 0 - 0 Old Boys
Both keepers made fantastic saves to ensure the game finished goalless in this pre season friendly.
The Old Boys had the first chance of the game when Charlie Oakley swept the ball just wide after a lovely lay off from George Homewood. The RYL side also had a chance to take the lead in the first half after Tom Vinnicent (apologies if spelling is wrong) broke through but could only find the side netting. The remainder of the first half was mainly both sides keeping possession at the back but failing to make the final ball count.
In the second half the Old Boys came out with a bit more urgency and had a few chances to take the lead throughout. Firstly Ryan Bell had a shot pushed over the bar after a nice play through midfield, then Luke Turner forced the keeper into making a fine save with his foot at the near post. The RYL team had a chance to score after breaking through with pace again, but the striker couldn't put the ball past an in form Ryan Howells (@ryanhowells19) who saved with his left foot to put the ball out for a corner.
In the remaining 10 minutes both teams had another chance each to win it. Firstly Oakley for the Old Boys beat a player on the edge of the box but failed to keep his curling shot under the cross bar. Then in the final minute of the match, the RYL team went through one on one again. Howells saved the initial shot with a fine save down to his right after a powerful shot, the rebound fell kindly to the same player, who laid the ball off for his team mate who put the ball past Howells, only to be denied on the line by Joe Barley. The danger was not yet averted as the ball was again struck towards goal, but Howells made another terrific save to push the ball wide for a corner and then to hear the final whistle.
A good workout for both teams, and a very organised defensive performance by the RYL side who had reasons to be optimistic for the new season.
Old Boys Squad: Ryan Howells, Luke Turner, Joe Barley, Jon Burch, Jake Meade, Harrison Read, Ryan Bell, Tim Goodwin, Jake Nicholls, Charlie Oakley, George Homewood, Kyle Wilkie, Tom Booth
