As with the away fixture to Corinthians we had an unfamiliar look to the side for this home game with several of the more regular starters unavailable, which meant we had an unbalanced team with 2 players playing out of position and only 2 subs on the bench. Having said that the whole squad gave 100% and for long periods of the game we were the better team, however, Corinthians are a strong settled side and in the end we were only able to convert one of the chances we created and they took 3 of theirs, but I feel that score flattered them. We started the better and scored after 7 mins when Jay Warden took advantage of a scramble in the penalty after Kyle Wilkie won the ball, poking the ball home from 6 yards. A good start and we maintained a good level for the next 20 minutes, but gradually CC managed to win more ball in the middle and gain more possession until on 40 mins they got a headed goal from a corner. Not a disaster if we had reacted to the setback, but CC had their tails up and we didn't respond strongly enough and with 48 mins on the watch due to stoppages they again scored from a header, this time from an angled free kick. Half time 2-1. The second half was a pretty even affair with both teams having spells of good football without either keeper being unduly worried until the last 5 mins when CC got the upper hand and scored a third with some well worked quick passing inside the penalty area. Final score 3-1. Not the result we would have liked but they were just a bit stronger Looking at the positives, it was a good debut for Paul Hennessy at full back and Luke Turkington had a real influence on play in the 2nd half from an more central position and well done to Jay for playing out of position at striker and scoring our goal.
