5 players signed to achieve a squad for this away fixture and all 3 goals coming from debutants. We had the majority of play throughout the match but managed to find ourselves 2-0 down at half time. The first goal was a freaky one on 19 mins when a mis-hit cross became a shot that keeper Jordan thought was going outside his post, but actually stayed in play and his late reaction only helped to punch it into the net for an OG against the run of play. We pressed and continued to have the majority of the ball without putting the finishing on the end of good play for the rest of the half. Northwood had only one real outlet, down the left wing, or a long ball over the top that our back line judged well with them being continually offside.
However, after 34 mins an attack down the left saw their striker score with a well directed curved shot around the defender and across Jordan into the far corner of the goal. A well taken goal.
So, half time, losing but knowing they weren't the better team ... we've been here before and this time the team managed to go out and turn it around.
After 48 mins Adam Murphy won the ball and released Zac Horkan on the left who simply ran at their defence and turned them and then struck a shot past the keeper to make it 2-1. A great individual goal.
Two mins later Adam took a quick long throw on the left and Ryan George was brought down from the resultant challenge in the box. Giacomo Di-Lullo stepped up and slotted home the kick 2-2.
We kept pressing and Northwood's frustrations grew until they again brought down Ryan in the penalty are after 86 mins and Giacomo converted again to make it 3-2.
With our recent history of giving away very late goals, the last couple of minutes were nervous, but this time we managed to play it out and get a well deserved win.
Everyone contributed in this performance. Good to see Ben and Sam working well in the middle and the threat of Ryan, Harry, Zac and Giacomo when we went forward. Half-fit Jay managed 70 mins and he worked well with new signing Buster ... and it's the best I've seen Murphy play. So, lots of pluses. Well done.
