Wasn't sure what to expect out of this fixture when we arrived with only 9 players available (we got another at half time) against a team that had not lost so far this season. What we got was a tremendous performance that showed real character and a great "team" ethic. Getting to half tine 0-0 with only 9 was the first step, having frustrated NGU with a display of how to work a system that they simply couldn't break down. The arrival of Roo Grace straight from the airport gave us the chance to be a little more adventurous in the second half, but always making sure that not conceding was the key objective. NGU got more and more frustrated and well into time added at the end the referee gave an odd decision that gave us the ball with Hamish in goal and he launched the ball downfield, we worked it to Mancini on the right, he left his defender in his wake and rounded the keeper to scored from an acute angle. Cue uproar from the NGU bench and their manager and an injured player in the dugout being sent off. Just 2 mins more played and we had a well deserved win. The pleasing thing about this performance was the spirit and belief shown by the whole team compared with 2 weeks ago, as well as the ability to really work hard for the whole 95 mins played, which was essential as we couldn't even muster a full starting 11. No man of the match in this as it was a "team" result, but I must mention youth player Adam Carnwath making his debut - a tough introduction to senior football that he dealt with very well, and also Mancini who looked a threat throughout the game and scored a great goal. We will need more of this next Saturday against high flying Tooting.
