The visitors came into this game having only lost 1 game so far this season and they left the same way, but in between they will know they were in a game. The was a closely fought match, without too many final shots on goal, but competitive and absorbing throughout. Both teams put is a shift and played some good football, with our best passages of play being in the second half. Walton took an early lead after 10 minutes, looking very strong from the start, but the goal was fortunate with a corner going in of a shoulder, rather than the intended header. They had more possession in the rest of the half but only actually created one half chance when when a speculative lob hit the bar. So, 1-0 at half time and we were ok.
We continued to work hard and hold our own in the second half, but after 60 mins they scored a terrific goal when a late runner headed home from what had to be an inch perfect cross to succeed, very hard to defend, and well taken. This only served to make us try harder and after 76 mins we got a goal back when Freddie Kelsey bundled the ball in after good work by Otis Taylor on the left fed the ball to Jay Warden who slid the ball across for Freddie to score. Reward for the efforts being put in but we couldn't take another 2 chances that fell to Freddie and Tom Booth in the remaining time, so the final score was 2-1. No disgrace in losing to Walton & Hersham who are very good team and we showed that we can compete against this level of opponent. Well done to the whole squad, we didn't quite have enough but we weren't far away.
