The reserves rollercoaster season continued with the usual struggle to get a team out , but eventually we had 12 that arrived and we pulled off a result that Uxbridge certainly didn't see coming. With opposition sitting top of the table, having only lost twice this season, we decided to take the game to them from the start and not play a more defensive shape and see if they could break us down, as eventually they were likely to do it. So, we played a high pressing game and made it difficult for them to enjoy any possession from the start and it basically worked. They quite clearly have some good players who like to play the ball on the deck, but they wanted more time than we were prepared to allow them. After 16 minutes, their keeper made a handling howler under pressure from Shane Cummins, fouling him in the process, and we were awarded a penalty. Perry Coles stepped up and slotted home. We continued to play well but rode our luck at bit at set plays, where they were obviously well drilled, and they hit the bar and the post from corners, but after 38 minutes Freddie Kelsey took a corner and in the resulting scramble Dollard was again in the right place to tap in and make it 2-0, which is how it stayed until half time. It was clear they would have to try and change how they approached the game in the 2nd half, but we maintained out tempo and confidence and after 57 minutes Ellis Riddell received the ball on the edge of their penalty area and Freddie made a looping run around him, took his slide pass between the defenders and struck the ball in the far corner of the net. 3-0. They changed to 3 up front and we adjusted to have a holding man and nullified most of the threat, however, we gave a free kick away in a dangerous position just outside the box and their No 9, who we had nullified all game, hit a hard low shot through a mass of players into the net to make it 3-1. We stayed positive and took advantage of the gaps they were leaving in midfield and after 74 minutes we went to 4-1 up when their defence were asleep, thinking we would slow things down at a throw in, which Perry took quickly to Shane who had ghosted behind the back line and he lobbed the stranded keeper. Nice goal. With time running out, they managed to get a consolation goal after 85 minutes when we lost the ball in midfield, argued the point with the referee and in the meantime they ran through and scored. But too little too late. We were the better team on the day, confirmed by their management, great team spirit and work rate and with 3 new signings, not an easy thing to achieve. Well played everyone involved - 5 wins on the trot Up to 7th in the table.

I think the management and the players of the ressies deserve massive credit this season. It's easy going forward when the team is settled and results go your way most weeks. It shows a lot of character and clubmanship that despite hap hazard fixtures and struggling to get 11 on the pitch that we are finishing the season very well. This is what makes clubs strong, and Camberley FC have good people from the grassroots up to 1st team and committee level that are moving this club forward in a positive way. Well done.
